    • facebook is now able to change/alter their policies at any given time with no acknowledgement given to their users. this could have any number of outcomes that will affect the facebook users. for example facebook could change their policy and supply data mining companies with vast amounts of personal information, this would be a direct issue with the users privacy.

  • Describe how the IT development/problem emerged (started)?
    • Facebook sent out an email to all of its users which held a link to a site where users could vote on whether or not facebook should be able to change its policy at any time without notifying their users. the response facebook recieved was rather alarming as they on received 0.2% of the required votes

  • What are the advantages and disadvantages for the stakeholders?
    • the main advantages of the situation would be that facebook would be able to rectify any issues in its policy swiftly without having to draft up a notification to all it users that there has been a change. however the main disadvantage would be that users would have no idea what facebook would be changing its policy to state, this makes users incredibly vulnerable to privacy issues such as facebook distributing users personal information to 3rd party companies.

  • What viable solution can be applied to overcome the problem?
    • facebook could allow the users to filter which information they hand out to 3rd parties or alternatively notify users when they share personal users.

  • What is/are the social impact of the IT development on human life?
    • due to the sharing of personal information to 3rd parties people would possibly become vulnerable to identity theft and spam.
